Hi Representative ___________, I’m calling to ask you to vote no on House Bill 1421, Cattle Grazing on State Lands, in the State Affairs Committee on Tuesday morning.
Floridians like me would lose access to State Parks, State Forests, and public hunting lands that we paid for and currently enjoy.
Last year the Legislature unanimously voted to protect conservation lands from being privatized and commercialized. HB 1421 does the opposite. Like golf courses, hotels, and pickleball courts, commercial agriculture has no place in our state parks.
Florida has millions of acres of land suitable for cattle grazing, but none of them are on our State Parks, State Forests, or public hunting lands.
I support agriculture, but agriculture and conservation lands should both have a place in our state. It is critical that Florida maintain the conservation lands we’ve already purchased in true conservation.
Cattle are one of the largest pollution sources to Florida’s springs, contributing over 1.5 million pounds of nitrogen pollution, per year, in the Suwannee River basin.
Cattle are not a native species and do not belong in natural Florida. Cattle will harm the very things we purchased these lands to protect: native plants, imperiled ecosystems, and water quality.
