For ten years, the Springs Council has punched far above its weight, winning in courtrooms, shaping legislation, supporting local communities, and holding state agencies accountable.
Now we have an opportunity to do even more to protect Florida’s springs.
OUR GOAL IS $100,000
We've spent ten years proving that legal advocacy works.
Over that time we’ve built a phenomenal team of attorneys who represent FSC pro-bono or at very reasonable cost. Now we have the ability to pair a young public interest attorney with our wonderful legal team to make an even bigger impact for Florida’s Springs.
Our goal is to raise $100,000 in 2026 to cover our portion of the Fellowship and ensure that FSC can retain a staff attorney once the Fellowship is completed. The Florida Springs Council’s Board of Directors has generously offered to match each gift dollar for dollar. That means every dollar of the remaining $50,000 donated by you and other supporters will be matched until we reach our $100,000 goal.

TAX-SMART GIVING
Making gifts of stock, charitable distributions directly from your IRA, or grants from your donor-advised fund allows you to reduce your tax liability while supporting this campaign.
-
When you donate stock, you avoid capital gains tax while deducting 100% of the value of the contribution. We partner with a nonprofit broker, Giving IQ/DonateStock, who guides you through the process.
-
If you’re 70 ½ years of age or older, a gift from your IRA (often called a Qualified Charitable Distribution, QCD, or charitable rollover) can lower your tax burden.
FINALLY, AN ENVIRONMENTAL ATTORNEY FOCUSED ON THE FORGOTTEN WATERS
Florida's environmental movement has traditionally invested enormous resources in protecting the Everglades and our coasts. But the springs, rivers, and rural communities of North and Central Florida have had to get by with less. FSC was created to change that, to bring springs and rivers the talent and resources that match their ecological importance. This campaign will help us take the next step forward.
Thanks to a partnership with the Jacobs Law Clinic at the Stetson College of Law, we are bringing on a young public interest attorney to protect central and north Florida's springs, rivers, and public lands. This new attorney will expand FSC’s capabilities and allow us to dedicate more resources in traditionally underserved rural communities that bear the brunt of water shortages and pollution.
The challenges facing Florida’s springs are great, but so are the opportunities to protect and restore them. We must act now to address Florida’s broken water permitting system, unchecked development, intensive unregulated agriculture, phosphate mining, species and habitat loss, and the emerging threat of data centers in sensitive watersheds. Yet, as anyone who has tried to go to court in Florida to protect the environment knows, there is a major shortage of public interest environmental lawyers, particularly outside of the Everglades.
Adding a new public interest attorney focused on the waters and rural communities of central and north Florida is the most important thing we can do right now.
